How To Figure Out Who Your Ideal Client Is!
Have you ever tried filling out one of those client avatar worksheets? The ones that ask you to fill in the blanks with information like… Is she married? What is her profession? How many kids does she have? What kind of car does she drive? Where does she hang out online? And my personal favourite…what magazines does she read?
Like, what?1?! I have no idea!! Does anyone even read magazines anymore??
I can’t tell you how frustrated those worksheets made me! The whole reason I was going through the workbook (that I probably downloaded for free) was that I DIDN’T know who my ideal client was, never mind her shopping and magazine reading habits.
For years I did not have a clear picture of who I was speaking to in my marketing, and that was a big problem. When you aren’t clear on who you are speaking to, then you won’t be able to understand the problems and pain points she’s dealing with. And if you aren’t speaking to her and helping her solve a problem, you are really just wasting your time. That was me for many years.
But once I was taught this everything fell into place!
Stop trying to figure out this mythical unicorn of a perfect client. Your ideal client is YOU! Speak to yourself!
Big BUT here….speak to a past version of yourself. In my case…
The single working girl who is trying to make ends meet.
The young mom who needs to supplement her family income.
The working mom who would love to be home with her family.
The empty nester who needs a purpose in her life.
This might look different for you, but speak to a past version of who you used to be.
Start by picking one of the past versions of yourself. Then think about the frustrations and pains that she was dealing with, and then figure out how your offer can solve her problems.
Speak to her and let her know she can be where you are now…and that you can show her the way.
Then, when you get good at speaking to one of those versions, add another version and speak to her too.
Make sense? Good! Now ditch those worksheets and go find your perfect client!
